<image:title>Registered Massage Therapy - What are appointments like?</image:title>
<image:caption>The aim of massage therapy is to help each person achieve their own goals for their body. And because of this, what works for one person may not be effective for another. Prior to your appointment we will sit down with you to discuss what brings you to us and take a detailed health history. This will give your treatments focus. Throughout your treatment your therapist will check in with you regarding the type and amount of pressure, making any adjustments necessary to ensure your comfort.</image:caption>

<image:title>Registered Massage Therapy - What should I wear?</image:title>
<image:caption>Whatever is most comfortable! Often you will be asked to undress “to your comfort level,” but this can mean anything from fully dressed to completely undressed. In either case you will be fully covered by both a blanket and a sheet during your treatment. Your therapist will uncover sections (such as your back or a leg) one at a time, securing the sheets so that you are covered and comfortable at all times.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Mackenzie - About Your RMT, Mackenzie</image:title>
<image:caption>Originally from Newmarket, Ontario, Mackenzie began working in Ottawa in 2017 after graduating with honours from the Massage Therapy program at Georgian College. For 15 years, Mackenzie competed as an elite-level figure skater through Skate Canada, training 25-30 hours per week. She has a background in dance, fitness, strength training and yoga as well as mental strategies and goal setting. Skating began a lifelong interest in fitness, sports and therapy. Her interest in massage therapy and rehabilitation began from the various injuries sustained during her training and the desire to facilitate other people’s transition back to sport and their daily lives. Shortly after beginning to work as a massage therapist, Mackenzie began to study craniosacral therapy (CST) under Gary Keeling through the Craniosacral Therapy Alliance. CST is a very gentle manual technique designed to boost the function of the central nervous system and is often used to treat concussions, migraines/headaches, TMJ dysfunctions, digestive conditions, central nervous system disorders, as well as many others. This type of treatment helps to locate an area of restriction more directly and to facilitate the body’s ability to heal itself. During treatments, Mackenzie uses a variety of light and deep techniques, including myofascial, trigger point, Swedish, CST and manual lymphatic drainage to find the most efficient way to induce positive change whether it be from an injury, muscle/postural imbalance or the stresses of everyday life on the body. Outside of work, Mackenzie loves the vibrant and active lifestyle Ottawa offers and you can find her exploring and hiking outdoors, practicing yoga, and depending on the season, either skating on the canal or reading a book under a tree alongside it! Additional Certifications: CST Basic Elements Level 1 & 2</image:caption>

<image:title>Craniosacral Therapy - What happens during a Craniosacral Therapy treatment?</image:title>
<image:caption>The therapist will use gentle touch to feel restrictions in the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid that moves throughout the body. With the therapist allowing the fluid to ebb and encouraging it to flow, the client may notice a loosening or “unwinding” of tensions long held in the body. The therapist will be guided by the fluid to create gentle pressure in specific areas to encourage the release in and relaxation of the deep tissues.</image:caption>
